From the very instant of human existence, science has played an indispensable role in human evolution. It has revolutionized the existence of humans on Earth. Much of the progress that we have made from the invention of fire during the stone age to the modern era of Super Computers is a gift of science to mankind. Science has made the lives of people easy than it was before industrialization. There’s not a single field left where science has not made progress. From precision Agriculture to personalized Generic medicines, humans have come a far way with the help of Science and Technology.
Almost everything around us has been developed with the help of science and technology. News in form of paper and even on our phones is because of technological advancement. Inventions such as Electricity, Refrigerators, Air-Conditioners, Computers, Washing machines, Cars and many more, without which we cannot imagine our lives is possible due to scientific and technological advances. Today, if we can use televisions, LED lights, play music and even dial a call just by our single command is because of science. Advances in Science has enabled us to think beyond our planet. The discovery of other planets and galaxies and even the establishment of satellites in space is a result of the same science.
As, we are aware of the fact, that everything has its brighter side and a darker side. Even the moon has its dark side. Therefore, with each advancement of science, there has been an increase in pollution. We have cleared forests and cut down a huge number of trees for industries and buildings. But, these in turn have developed as a curse to mankind. Pollution has become the greatest threat to future generations. The automobiles and the fossil fuels we use release certain harmful gases into the atmosphere causing air pollution due to which there are climatic variations in the form of Acid Rain, Global Warming and Ozone Layer Depletion. Industries and factories have contributed largely to water and soil pollution by releasing harmful waste products in water bodies and their nearby lands.
Besides, the chemicals and pesticides used in agriculture cause Bio-magnification which can cause life-threatening diseases in humans.
The main purpose of Science and Technology is to create a better life. But, often the main focus has been shifted and science has been misused to cause harm. Nuclear Technology is one of the greatest threats to human beings. During the second world war, around 3,00,000 people lost their lives in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan because of nuclear weapons released by the U.S.A to these cities. Presently, Bio-weapons have taken the place of these Nuclear Bombs. Bio-Weapons is more dangerous, as certain micro-organisms are released into the environment which thereby can cause severe diseases.
As we have seen that science has both positive and negative impacts on our lives. It can be negatively used, but it is entirely upon us how we use it to help mankind and not harm them. Science if used in the right direction can lead us to a beautiful future ahead while its misuse can result in a disaster.
