We, as fellow beings of a civilized society, owe it social responsibility. This social responsibility is to serve humanity. There are numerous ways to serve humanity. It is not limited to making donations or charity. Rather, it is beyond this. In this society, we all have our own roles to play. We serve humanity by playing our respective roles. The roles we play can be in our professional life, social life or personal life. Taking today’s critical times as an example, we can say that every individual is serving humanity by following social distancing. Doctors, without thinking of their own health, are striving to cure the infected patients. Police Forces deployed at every locality are ensuring the lock-down to mitigate the spread of the virus. Economists and leaders are finding ways and framing policies to lessen the impact of lock-down on the economy to prevent poverty, famine and economic breakdown. All these people are serving mankind by playing their respective roles in society. For instance, if a doctor prefers to serve an influential person over a dying person, he is not ethically correct and nor is he serving humanity. Therefore, good values must be ingrained in an individual so that he grows up to be scrupulous. These good values are imbibed in an individual by one’s role models during childhood and most importantly, by one’s parents. Thus, we can say that not only are the ethically upright professionals serving humanity, but also the homemakers. The housewives are the ones who are given the least credit for what they do. She bears children and raises them. She imbibes good values in them and influences them. It is she who, because of her selflessness and devotion to her children, is the first person to influence them. By making them diligent, conscientious and scrupulous human beings, she serves the society. By teaching them to make righteous choices, she serves the generations to come. Perhaps, her role in society is substantial. These values can also be imbibed by mentors, teachers, friends, relatives or even strangers at any point in one’s life. Thus, serving humanity is the core of life. It is essential so that we live in a peaceful world and make the world a better place for the future generations. Also, it is only by serving humanity can a person attain inner peace.
